Installs Wet and Dry Pipe Fire Sprinkler Systems in the Lakeview
Building |

Lakeview
Building - Duluth, Minnesota
|
Viking
worked to complete the Lakeview Building, a four-story,
73,000 square foot medical facility located at 1001 East
Superior Street, Duluth, Minnesota.
The Lakeview Building includes a cancer care center, infectious disease
level, outpatient services, and an internal medicine floor. |

Wet
and Dry Pipe Control Valves

Viking was in charge of designing
and installing wet and dry pipe automatic
fire sprinkler systems in the Lakeview Building.
The wet pipe fire sprinkler system protects all four levels. Each level has its
own floor control valve assembly connected to a vertical standpipe, located on
the stair landings. This allows individual draining, testing and monitoring.
The system also has a hose valve at each level for Fire Department
use.The system is supplied by a central valve assembly, located in the
basement mechanical room.
Dry
Pipe System Sprinkler Head
|
A
dry pipe fire sprinkler system is one in which pipes are filled
with pressurized air or nitrogen, rather than water. It provides
protection in spaces where freezing is possible. This
system is used to protect the area below the attached drive-thru
canopy and the unheated basement level parking ramp. Both areas
are supplied by a dry pipe riser located in the basement mechanical
room. |

Semi
Recessed and Fully Concealed Sprinklers in Elevator
Lobby
|
In order
to maintain a smooth ceiling appearance semi
recessed sprinklers were used in the suspended ceiling areas.
Fully concealed sprinklers with a flush cover were used in
the drywall ceiling areas and soffits.

The coordination
of the systems began during the budgeting phase of the project.
This resulted in the most efficient use of materials and labor.
Viking shared CAD drawings with The Jamar
Company thru APi's network. This allowed
them to closely coordinate space requirements and locations of piping runs within
the ceiling plenums. Working with APi Electric, Viking was able to coordinate
the automatic sprinkler system with electrical and fire alarm wiring interfaces. |
