November 9, 2012 - Viking is currently working on the LEED-certified Duluth International Airport project. Replacing the almost 40-year old station, the new $70 million passenger terminal was designed to better accommodate and suit the demands of increased passenger traffic, airline carriers and flights. The new project will also bring the airport in compliance with the security measures adopted after 9/11.

In building its new terminal, the Duluth International Airport is incorporating several unique and "green" technologies to save fuel, reduce waste, and decrease costs. The terminal will have a glass façade that allows for natural lighting, a heated entry roadway that will be good for passengers and reduce the use of chemicals outdoors, an electrical connection at the gate for planes to connect to, and a geothermal system used in conjunction with a HVAC system, provided by The Jamar Company of Duluth, to heat and cool the facility.

Once the new passenger terminal is complete it will be a three-story, 100,000 square foot building with a 400-person waiting area. Since January of 2012, Viking has had two fitters working on the job. Upon conclusion of the project, Viking will have installed one dry sprinkler system, three wet systems and one gas suppression system, which will all be fed off of a single fire pump.
